This is approximately the number of beans contained in a cocoa pod.
Each year, a cocoa tree 🌳 will produce 40 to 60 pods (only 1 out of 200 flowers will bear fruit!), which is approximately 2kg of cocoa.
After some quick calculations, a 100g 70% dark chocolate bar 🍫 will therefore contain 1 to 2 pods (we highly recommend Michel BAREL's works for those who want to know everything about the industry).
A cocoa tree thus yields 25 to 50 dark chocolate bars, depending on the recipes. We could continue these calculations for a long time: just imagine the number of trees required to supply even the French market, with its 135,000 tons of chocolate bars sold each year!
Sustaining farms, stabilizing prices at fair levels for everyone by replenishing soils through agroforestry cultivation is therefore vital.
